In March 2008, my Aunt Cindy was diagnosed. I remember at the time wondering how it could happen. I remember thinking that she was healthy, happy, and rich in family and friends. She walked often with a neighbor, and ate healthy. How on earth could she be diagnosed with Breast Cancer? Yet the disease is non-discriminatory. Although my Aunt bravely fought the disease, many women will not win. While I like to think that I am immune, and isolated from this disease, the truth is that without a cure, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
I walk for her as a survivor, for a friend's mom (recently diagnosed for the 2nd time, with Stage 4), for a friend at church, Shoushan.
I walk so that my mom will never have to go through this. I walk in hope that my Goddaughter and niece will see an end in their lifetime.
